The Joys of Buying an Older Home

My dream home was not new construction in a planned community. It was a rambling old structure in a neighborhood that was beginning to recover after years of decline. I got the place for a song and started in on all the tasks associated with restoring it to new glory. I soon found there was a lot to do. While the house was sound, it needed to be fumigated after several years of standing vacant. All the tile needed replacing, and the floors cried out for refinishing. Little by little, I got the place ready for me to move in. Today, I like to think it is the nicest home on the block. If you are thinking of buying a fixer-upper, try my tips. From redoing the wallpaper to choosing the right pest control service, what I learned will save you a lot of time and trouble.

Small Pests Can Cause Big Problems For Homeowners

Rodents can be a big problem for homeowners, and the most prudent way to deal with these pesky creatures is through professional extermination. Rodents such as mice, rats, squirrels, and even shrews, can wreak havoc on a home, and do a lot of their damage from the inside-out. Ignoring the problem won't make it go away, and in fact, can put your home and family at risk for serious consequences related to these pests.

Some of the potential hazards of rodent infestation include the following:

Damage

Allowing rodents free reign of your home opens the structure up to the damage and problems that these little creatures can cause. These four-legged pests will chew and gnaw on the home's materials, potentially causing compromise to the integrity of walls, ceilings, and flooring. They also will destroy clothing, personal items, and anything that gets in their way!

Disease

Rodents are linked to a number of scary illnesses, including Hemorrhagic fever, Leptosporosis, and the Plague. You are also at increased risk of Salmonella when you come into contact with rodents, or even rodent-droppings, which are likely to be present when you have a pest problem in the home. When you spot droppings or evidence of rodent infestation, contact an exterminator immediately.

Droves

When you see signs of one mouse or rodent in your home, there are apt to be many more to follow. These creatures rarely take over the home independently, and they multiply quickly. Before your home becomes a breeding ground for mice, rats, or other rodents, address the issue with a pest control company such as Greenleaf Organic Pest Management.

Disaster

Many homeowners may underestimate the destruction that rodents can cause. Their gnawing habits extend to the wiring inside your walls, which when chewed, can open up your property to the risk of an electrical fire. Stay safe by having an exterminator evaluate and rid the home of any unwanted pests.

Distress

Perhaps the most common issue for those with a pest problem is the sheer anguish and distress that the issue can cause. Seeing a mouse run across the kitchen floor, or hearing rodents moving around in the walls is worrisome- and may cause many homeowners to lose sleep. There is something truly unsettling about sharing your home with rodents.

Don't risk the damage and potential injury that rodents can cause in the home. Ignoring the problem can exacerbate the problem, and result in an infestation. Contact a local exterminator to determine the best approach for getting rid of the rodents, once and for all.
