The Joys of Buying an Older Home

My dream home was not new construction in a planned community. It was a rambling old structure in a neighborhood that was beginning to recover after years of decline. I got the place for a song and started in on all the tasks associated with restoring it to new glory. I soon found there was a lot to do. While the house was sound, it needed to be fumigated after several years of standing vacant. All the tile needed replacing, and the floors cried out for refinishing. Little by little, I got the place ready for me to move in. Today, I like to think it is the nicest home on the block. If you are thinking of buying a fixer-upper, try my tips. From redoing the wallpaper to choosing the right pest control service, what I learned will save you a lot of time and trouble.

3 Ways To Customize Your Kitchen Cabinets

When it comes to creating the perfect kitchen for your home, there are many fun options to choose from. One aspect of your kitchen that is very important to customize is cabinets.  Your kitchen cabinets will be the focal point of your kitchen. For this reason, you not only want them to function well for you, but you also want them to look good aesthetically. Customizing your kitchen cabinets will allow you to get exactly what you want. This article will discuss 3 ways to customize your kitchen cabinets.

Add Glass To Them

If you want your kitchen cabinets to look a bit different from the uniform wood cabinets, you can switch things up by adding glass to some or all of your cabinets. This glass at the center of your cabinets will allow you to display your dishes inside, which can be a lot of fun if you have some pretty dishes that you would like to display. This glass also does an excellent job of breaking up the sometimes boring look of all wood cabinets. You can also have designs and different textures added to the glass in the cabinet to make it look even more unique and personalized.

Different Colored Uppers and Lowers

If you are having a hard time deciding between dark wood cabinets or white painted cabinets, then you can make things more customized by incorporating both of these cabinet types into your kitchen cabinet design. For example, you can have your upper cabinets one type and your lower cabinets another type. Also, if you have an island in the middle of your kitchen, you can also have this a different color than the other lower cabinets in your kitchen. This creates a great contrast that is very aesthetically appealing and is different from most kitchen cabinet designs.

Unique Cabinet Handles

A very simple yet effective way to customize your kitchen cabinets is to add some unique hardware to them. If you choose your own customized handles for your cabinets, you can create the type of style that you want, such as modern or classic. You can also add some color to your kitchen by having colored handles. This is also likely the most affordable way to go about customizing your kitchen cabinets, which is appealing to those who want to personalize their kitchen but don't have a lot of money to do so. Talk to a cabinet store, like All Marble Granite & Tile Imports Inc, for more help.
